Surreal paintings by Spanish artist Paco Pomet

Paco Pomet lives and works in Granada, Spain, from where he creates crazy surreal paintings like the ones above.

A bubble gum river, a gold foil mountain, a glacier inside an office – all is possible with the magic of his brush. I love that each painting uses one colour as the base and all the details and different shades of that same hue make it eye catching.

All of these paintings in a cluster on a wall = winning collection!

Fellas, time to man up your drinks! Life is too short and there’s no time to waste on a bunch of bland ice cubes that just dilute your drink. This week on ManMadeDIY I posted a trusty little guide to make your own flavoured ice cubes at home, plus, a couple recipes to make these game-changing icy bad boys.

All you need is a simple home-made chocolate syrup, some spices, and you’re good to go. Head over to ManMadeDIY to get the full scoop!

PS. After I made them I totally snacked on them! The chocolate ones are aces with any kind of milky drink (or even in coffee) and the spiced ones are killer on bourbon and whiskey based cocktails like an old fashioned…hmm..I luh yu papi.

Strawberry Lime Basil Shortcakes

I am torn between playing Missy Elliot’s ‘4 My People’ and bounce some ass in a SURFBORDT style, or going the classier way and play ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ by The Beatles; either of those tracks would sound amazing while baking these INSANELY GOOD shortcakes. My friends, this recipe is da bomb. I found it in last month’s edition of Bon Appetit and have been dreaming about it since. I added a bit of zingy citrus to make it extra yummy.

Picture this: sweet juicy local strawbs, fresh basil, and the tangy essence of lime, all sandwiched in between a buttery shortcake loaded with fluffy cream. Seriously, a culinary boner right there. I know there’s plenty of dairy in here and some of us should stay away from it BUT, some things cannot be replaced! Just pop a few lactose pills like I did and you’ll be fine. It’s SO worth it.

Perfect. Summer. Treat.

Dudes, tapestry and weaving is so hot right now. And it’s even hotter when artists like Rachel Gottesman get their thread-and-needle going on. You have probably seen some of them on Instagram or Pinterest, and I love how an ancient form of textile makin’ has gotten totally revamped.

Each tapestry still holds it’s “rustic” handmade appeal, but the colours and textures of the threads used take it to another level of fresh and modern. With those cheerful hues, any wall would look amazing! If I only knew how to work the yarn like these pros (I actually tried it and failed miserably!).

Oh man. This week went by flyiiiing. So sorry I didn’t get to squeeze a food post, but you know, sometimes one’s schedule gets a bit too cray…even for baking!

Anywho. At least I got some awesome photos to tease your interior-taste-buds. This is the house of Niels Strøyer Christophersen (say that 3 times) Creative Director of FRAMA, a Danish design company that’s the bees knees. Every single one of their creations is an ode to classic / contemporary design and all of their pieces are minimal and functional.

This same ethos is spilled and splashed all over his own home. I mean COME ON, the place looks like a still life painting! No wonder why he’s so inspired all the time.

On that same note, let’s get some inspiration packed on the weekend so we can come back next week kicking butt! Yes? Happy weekend!

Flower power activate! It’s been some time since I’ve featured crazy colourful mixed media (considering I was obsessed with it last year). I think you were too, right? (we all were!).

These collages couldn’t be found at a better time – right when the late spring/early summer colours start to burst. Ciara Phelan has done a great job at capturing sunshine-drenched moments with her mixed media, especially with all those amazingly tasty fruits.

Some of her collages have been featured in publications like Oprah mag (yes, THE Oprah), so that’s a stamp of approval of the universe (probably the good ol’ G.O.D. pinned it already too).

And of course, the whole collection couldn’t be complete without a majestic pineapple (the one popping out of the pill), so that’s an instant win for me. Go ahead and soak your eyes in more bright collages on Ciara’s site.

Beautiful Interiors: A Pastel Kitchen

A foodie’s paradise! Right? I mean, cooking alone is pretty awesome, now can you imagine whipping up a bunch of summer concoctions in a beautiful space like this one? GAH! You’d probably create an artful feast worthy enough for the editors of Bon Apetit mag to drop by.

Though, I’m unsure if the space in real life would look as modern – the photos are amazing, so I’m assuming yes, but sometimes these pastels are tricky and can make you feel like all of the sudden you’re sitting in a cupcake store and you’re about to snort powder sugar.

Regardless, this is a pretty sweet space to leave us interior-day-dreaming for the weekend. Hope you enjoy the sun! See you next week amigos.
