I was totally caught by surprise when I saw these prints are a merge of staged photos of real plexiglass and digital illustrations. Crazy! Basically the shapes, colours, and reflexions from the lights in Verena Michelitsch and Tobias Van Schneider’s studio serve as a base pattern from which they create unique prints.

I love that the materials used in this series were actually bought at the shops in New York’s Chinatown. See, there’s no limit for creativity! You ain’t need expensive shiz to produce amazing work. See the behind the scenes over here AND buy the prints over there.

OH! Someone please pass me a bar of chocolate, I feel fainty with such beauty! Food, illustration, recipes – yes yes and yes.

Los Angeles artist, Sara Zin, recently created a new project titled Starving Artist Recipes where she illustrates her favourite meals and gives instructions and all on how to prepared them.

What I love the most is the description of her project, it’s so honest and cute:

While I’m no celebrity chef, my goal for this blog is sincere — to share the recipes (and personal insight) I wish I knew when I was younger, to whomever is interested

And that’s what good food is all about; sincere ingredients and simple moments. And how awesome are those drawings? I am a total fan of this style of food blogging. You go Sara!

Hsiao Ron Cheng is quite a prolific artist that has been recognized (and featured on several blogs) due to her unique, pastel-hued, dreamy illustrations.

She has quite an impressive and beautiful portfolio full of projects that range from book covers to murals and even pattern design. I love that regardless of the project she’s working on, you can really see her “signature” style which sets her apart from the rest. Her illustrations reminds me of anime, but in a more contemporary gallery kinda way.

Not bad to get the week started, right?

A mix of watercolour, drawings, and mixed media, gotta love the work of Mexican artist Alejandrina Herrera! Her illustrations capture quirky moments in the life of people and animals. The minimal approach to different life situations is quite fun! Also, the soft palette combined with the dark, intricate details of the drawings (look at that shiny horse!) are spot on.

How cool! Remember those Disney black and white silhouettes? Well, Aritz Bermudez too the whole thing to a new level by adding beautiful lanscapes.

They still have a very retro feeling but with a pimped up design-y look. I would love to have these ones as a set on a plain white wall, you know, all in one row type of thing.

As the rain is pouring down, my neck is hurting from all the time I’ve spent in front of my computer and I’m stressing about cooking dinner (if I keep eating frozen food I’ll turn into a mexican Paula Dean) – I found my saviour: the art of Peggy Wolf.

Peggy has been all over the place – interior design, fashion, illustration. No wonder why her work is fit for a runway show. It would be awesome if Peggy paired up with a fashion designer of sorts to create an art/clothing show where you can match your shirt with a canvas (like Basso and Brooke but more collage-y).

On a side note, not everything has been stress today – I got a thank you email from Amanda (the artist that created the rad 40K Junk Mail installation posted below) I couldn’t be more flattered! Amanda mentioned she has a few projects happening in the near future and when the time comes she’ll let me know about them. Can hardly wait! ALSO her post made my blog appear in WordPress’ front page in the “Freshly Pressed” section making The Artful Desperado go kabooom! Thank YOU Amanda and thank YOU newly-discovered-desperados for leaving all of those great comments :)

So, back to Peggy’s art – inspired by all of her colourful pieces I say get your sketch book out, your fashion magazines, scissors and glue and let your artful juices flow!

While you get your supplies  - and I attempt to grow more arms like Vishnu so I can get stuff done around the house – I’ll leave you with some good looking couture-inspired art:

Even though Christmas is gone and the whole shopping frenzy has come to an end, I might give myself a late present from Kris Tate‘s line.

These colorful designs are not only available as art prints but also as iPhone skins, T-shirts, laptop stickers – you name it. I want the whole line! specially the one with the super colored Marie Antoinette; a hipstery twist on a cool classic, right? Just picture this: your living room bursting with color from one of Kris’ creations – bam!

In illustration!

I found Matthew’s work while browsing through the art section of Redit, one of the many places I visit to find creative peeps.

Here’s a sample of Matthew’s illustrations and yes, you guessed correctly, my favorite one is the one with the triangles and the eyes. I choose these images because the colors remind me of the soil in Arizona, which is one of my favorite places on this planet! {Matthew happens to live there, too.}

And hey, here’s a question for you: Which online spots do you visit to get in touch with your creative community? Leave your comments and tips below. Enjoy your Sunday!
