Art and People

Art and People

The other day I found Art and People through Creature Comforts and I was instantly hooked! (For obvious reasons!) A colorful cactus? A few dashes of bright pink? Do I hear me gusta mucho? Si si.

I think I just found a great prospect to hang on my wall, the 1st image on the top will certainly look quite handsome right above my book shelves you know? Next to the vintage tequila bottle and the picture of my parents getting married in a grotto (which for those of you who don’t know what a grotto is {I just learned that word today, yay!} it’s like a very cool cave with rock formations and shit – totally discovery channely).

On a side note – I am extremely pooped these days. Work has been quite a fucking nightmare (boss if you read this, you know I love you) but in a good way of course – it’s work right?! Anyways, my point is – I may be a bit absent from the blog as I really need to get the new content for 2013 going and having a full-time job + holiday duties are weakening my blog powers and strengthening the bags under my eyes (for real, if you need extra shopping bags to carry your christmas gifts just give me a call and I’ll send you my face). So, priorities must be set! (and eye cream must be bought).

Lastly – I’ll stop rambling I swear – check out my arty guest post on Meg’s blog! It’s fashion and mixed media, yeah!

Alright that’s it. I’m off to bed, tomorrow’s my work staff party and I am planning to leave the bar DRY – If needed I’ll even drink the juice from the olives and the melted ice cubes in the cooler. Oh my.  Salud!!

Oil Paintings by Lee Price

Yeah, Lee Price just went to the Pinterest board of OMG. My favorite painting is the one with all the ice cream – break up scenes have never looked this artsy! Or well, maybe she’s not going through a break up and she’s just getting into the holiday spirit like all of us – packing the calories! Cuz, you know, that’s the only way to celebrate…right?!!!

I am in love with these paintings by Emma Bennett! The black velvet-y background and the floral details are spot on.

Tonight a couple of my good friends and I got together for dinner so they could tell me all about their New York adventure. My god – by the things they told me, NYC is TRULY the city that never sleeps. They also showed me tons of pictures from these buildings with beautiful sculptures and art. So impressive! Like my friend D would say “Like Paris but on steroids!”  And the apartments. Wow. Just wow.

I totally think Emma’s work would be worthy of a New York city modern condo collection. It’s classy, timeless and has this almost renaissance feeling, no? Oh! And imagine adding one of those super thick golden frames to each painting…. just maaaarvelous dahling.

Today’s post is inspired by Instagram’s weekend tag #bluronpurpose. I totally failed at snapping a picture to submit to the tag but, posting these paintings by Philip Barlow definitely makes up for it.  Have you noticed all of the hyper-realistic paintings popping up lately? So good! There’s nothing like getting surprised by a piece of art that makes you say “wait..is that a…. no. Wow” right?

Henry Gunderson + Submit Your Art to Project Space Market

November 9, 2012

Art by Henry Gunderson

Love to end the week with the work of Henry Gunderson. The first piece on the top would look AMAZING if you hang it on the wall in a HUGE frame of sorts no? Total crazy statement. The last one with the horse is quite vintage-y looking and for some odd reason makes me think of soft porn from the 70’s. Yeah.

submit your art

Now, my dear Vancouverites – the rainy season is upon us but that doesn’t mean you need to stay at home eating cheetos and watching re-runs of Will & Grace. No sir. Tis the season of art events and pop-up markets that will set you on the right track for the holiday season.

My friends, I am speaking of Art Market: a Project Space fundraiser. In the words of Project Space:

The project is a three-week long pop-up market of commodities created by artists, that will act as a fundraiser and will provoke consideration of the situation artists/artist-run centres face creating work outside of the market while attempting to sustain themselves financially.

You must send a note of interest by November 10 (just a few days left!) and your work should be dropped off by November 21 2012 (oh, you have plenty of time to make awesome goodies). For more info about the event, including guideliness and contact info, click HERE.

Happy weekend amigos!

Gah! Friends. These are paintings. I know, right? I thought I was looking at a super glam photo shoot but nah-ah. It’s even better! Artist Marilyn Minter sure knows how to surprise people with her hyper-realistic work. I think fashion designers should start looking into this – can you imagine? An entire collection showcased on paintings and not on the runway – that’d be pretty amazing AND quite original. Someone like Marilyn could definitely get it done.

Yup. These are paintings. I know, I also said “no way jose”. These are the paintings of Kwangho Lee who – same as me – has a thing for cactuses. Once again I got swept off my feet by art. I initially thought those were super pretty photos, then I read the bottom of it where it said “oil on canvas” and lost my shit. Gah! How can a human do this!? Incredible.
