So how are you guys holding up after changing the clock for daylight saving? I’ve been bitching about it all day, but that’s probably because I love sleeping waay to much. On the positive side of things, it’s getting brighter outside! Seems like the winter spell is about to end.

Since the sun came out today and the temperature hit double digits (12C! woop!) I thought these paintings by Australian artist Julian Meagher would be puuurfect. They are so bright and full of life – basically an energy pill in the shape of a canvas.

I love how Julian takes random objects like gin bottles, beer boxes, and kitschy vintage pots and injects them with new life. Oh man, I cannot wait to feel like I’m living in one of his paintings, which should happen fairly soon! Yes! Hello Spring!

Oh you know, nothing much, just a bunch of super rad paintings by Linnea Strid. Such a nice way to get the week started!

And yes, I said paintings – PAINTINGS! Oh man, the things people create sometimes just blow my mind. I don’t have any experience in painting (other than stick dummies and pornographic napkin sketches), but I’m pretty sure – I heard it somewhere – that painting water is super hard, especially when you want it to look fluid. Obviously Linnea has no issue with that.

If you want to drool a bit more, check out her other paintings!

Another Canadian gem! These smooth portraits are the work of Kris Knight, a Toronto-based artist whose body of work is sexy, sensual, dreamy, and all-round lovely, basically a beautiful art smoothie. Love the “softness” in all of his paintings! I wonder if he dips them in downy?…Just kiddinnnnn

His resume and solo exhibitions are holy-cow lenghty, which gives me anxiety as he is only 3 years older than me, and you know, we creative peeps love to be self-destructive and compare our work with others even though we are not in the same field. Right?!

So, if someone’s looking for me, please tell them I’m stalking contemplating the work of Kris Knight.

Artfully Sweet Paintings by Joël Penkman

Oh holy sweetness. I got a eye candy for you to indulge. Literally.

Joël Penkman is a New Zealander that has a soft spot for food and British culture – see tea cups below, aaaah-mazing, right? Oh and she’s quite serious about her craft and makes each paintings from scratch, that means preparing gesso boards and making the paints as well. Talented much? Absolutely!

Obviously since I’m still suffering of the southern hemisphere fever, I thought this artful feature with a kiwi artist would be the perfect ending to the week. See you on Monday with a fresh load of new content!

Incredible Oil Paintings by Alyssa Monks

And here we have yet another insanely realistic series of oil paintings. Is it me, or is hyperrealistic art on the rise? Either way, it’s awesome and I hope it continues to gain strength. Today’s feature is nothing but a truck load full of awe, all thanks to the work of Alyssa Monks, a New Jersey artist that has made shower time a whole lot more glamorous.

Wouldn’t you kill to see them up close?! I can only imagine the details and texture from the oil paint. One thing I love to do when I visit galleries is to get as close as I can to a painting (close enough that the alarm might go off) and just stare at each stroke and think “why did he go this way…or that way..what’s that? A hair?”. Could spend HOURS doing that.

As you can tell it can be quite boring going to a museum with me – if we ever do, bring comfy shoes, ’cause we’ll be there for a while.
