HOLY CANNOLI!! Ring the alarm! This stuff is too good for words. Yes, you read correctly, these are hyperrealistic paintings, as in hand painted by a human being and not printed by a machine. And the human being is Eloy Morales, a Spanish artist that literally just knock our socks off.

We’ve seen quite a few hyperrealistic paintings being featured on the blog before, and you guys totally loved them! – a readers’ favourite is this one by Kang Kang-Hoon – I’m sure that Eloy’s work is no exception. I mean come on, the guy took the art of the selfie to the next level!

And this is just the tip of the iceberg, if you visit Eloy’s site you’ll find a shocking amount of paintings that are just as good. Perfect way to end the week, yes?

I had originally prepared a food post for you, but it was one of those that looked awesome on the small screen of your camera but when you make it full size it looks like shit, out of focus, styling off balance, ugh. You know how it is. Sooo, instead I found some crazy good art to show you.

These paintings by Yong Sung Heo look like they’re something out of a futuristic comic book, or even a very artful interpretation of the movie The Omen. Rather then being super creepy though, these paintings are very ethereal and somewhat soothing, don’t you think? Especially the last one with the girl, she looks so peaceful.

So yeah, hopefully next week I won’t fuck up the recipe and styling so you can enjoy some amazing food. But hey, the awesome art totally makes up for it, right?!

Not long ago I featured Meghan Howland’s work on the blog (paired up with a few objects of art, of course), and while doing my usual “hey artists, I’m gonna creep on your site to see what you’ve been up to” rounds, I discovered a new series of paintings. Score!

These oil paintings are super moody, and even a bit ghostly, but without being overly macabre. Actually, they’re quite sweet no? Love the last one with the sheet over the subject’s face, you can almost smell the scent of freshly laundered linens. If you haven’t seen her work from previous years, then visit her site at once!

Could someone please pinch me? Like. Is this actually happening?

I know I tend to overreact when it comes down to amazing art, but come on, how can you not flip out when you see this kind of work! These hyperrealistic paintings by Kang Kang-hoon are insane. So incredible, they’re almost rude. How dare you Mr. Kang?!

The details, candid expressions, and the quirky way they’ve been named make these portraits a personal favorite and a crowd pleaser (the very first painting on the top is titled Modern Lady-Angry pregnant woman, if my mama was asian, she’d totally look like that).

I really like how these paintings showcase scenes from everyday life, nothing crazy, just a bunch of friendly dudes and gals doing funny faces, smoking pipes, and showing their happy grin to the world. Ah, don’t you love when an artist finds beauty in the mundane? So poetic. Perhaps I can find beauty in the mountain of dirty laundry that’s taking over my bedroom. Maybe not. Let’s leave that to the pros, k?

Art and People

Art and People

The other day I found Art and People through Creature Comforts and I was instantly hooked! (For obvious reasons!) A colorful cactus? A few dashes of bright pink? Do I hear me gusta mucho? Si si.

I think I just found a great prospect to hang on my wall, the 1st image on the top will certainly look quite handsome right above my book shelves you know? Next to the vintage tequila bottle and the picture of my parents getting married in a grotto (which for those of you who don’t know what a grotto is {I just learned that word today, yay!} it’s like a very cool cave with rock formations and shit – totally discovery channely).

On a side note – I am extremely pooped these days. Work has been quite a fucking nightmare (boss if you read this, you know I love you) but in a good way of course – it’s work right?! Anyways, my point is – I may be a bit absent from the blog as I really need to get the new content for 2013 going and having a full-time job + holiday duties are weakening my blog powers and strengthening the bags under my eyes (for real, if you need extra shopping bags to carry your christmas gifts just give me a call and I’ll send you my face). So, priorities must be set! (and eye cream must be bought).

Lastly – I’ll stop rambling I swear – check out my arty guest post on Meg’s blog! It’s fashion and mixed media, yeah!

Alright that’s it. I’m off to bed, tomorrow’s my work staff party and I am planning to leave the bar DRY – If needed I’ll even drink the juice from the olives and the melted ice cubes in the cooler. Oh my.  Salud!!
