Have your heard of Project Space? No? Ok, here’s the low down: Project Space is a book shop, publisher, programming space, and studio based in the heart of Chinatown Vancouver. It’s a wonderful place where tons of creating things happen, from magazines to workshops. Now that you know what they’re all about – I’ll introduce you to Tracy, one of the founders of Project Space. Today she’s taking us for a ride around town so buckle up and enjoy. Take it away Tracy! [As per usual, the guest took the pictures with a disposable film camera given by The Artful Desperado - the results are a total surprise for both, the guest and the readers!]

Oh hey there!
Since I am in the process of putting together the Artful City Walks blog project, I thought this post would suit the mood. Today I’m going to share with you something fantastic – Dear Photograph - “digital nostalgia of the highest order”.
The project - created by 22 year old Taylor Jones – brings the past to the present. Such a simple yet powerful concept, yah? Just take an old picture and hold it in front of a digital camera and see the magic unfold. It’s almost as if all these happy memories came rushing in right when you snap the picture.
Taylor’s project has been so successful that he already has a book coming out! Wowza…talk about going viral and going strong. If you have some cool pics of the old days, you should give it a try and send your submission!
Tell me, do you know of other cool community projects happening? If you do, leave them on the comments below.

DIY Camera Obscura
April 8, 2011
Friday! yes. I am in such a zombie state of mind. Work, life, work. But, there is sunshine in Vancouver! so that makes everything so much better. I am taking the whole blogging thing a bit slow these coming days. I really REALLY love blogging but it was getting to a point where I’d stress about it – which defeats the whole purpose of me doing this.
Worry not! I have some cool things lined up though. A cool, easy arty tutorial {by a super cool art student that submitted her pictures!} and a great Euro band that has some rad tunes and videos and, because they are so cool, they will give you a free download . Yep. That cool.
For this weekend post I want to share with you a fantastic art project that I found via Yellowtrace Blog {which, in case you don’t have it yet, should be in your bookmarks cuz it’s just like yummy salsa on art}. The project; a DIY Camera Oscura…room! Yes, just look at these pics and get blown away:

So so so good, right? Ok now, here are the instructions for the magic by Yellowtrace :
STEP 1. Cover your window with a very dark shade (ideally velvet, or another heavy fabric/ solid material).
STEP 2. Make a pinhole in the fabric (I know what you are thinking – as if I you are going to cut a hole in a velvet curtain. Fair enough. But just go along for the sake of the exercise.)
STEP 3. An image of the outside scenery will be reflected directly on the opposite wall, but it will be upside-down.
STEP 4. Pour yourself a drink and enjoy the trip
This seems to be a fairly easy project, no? I mean if you only have a few windows with very little view then go get your friends involved! Go to their places and hunt down some nice looking scenery. If you want to check the full original post – click here
If you do end up trying it let me know and, of course, send some pics!
Ok that’s it for now. Again, there are a lot of cool things coming up in here, just bare with me while I get more sunshine energy pumped into my blood.
Thanks so much for popping by, have a great weekend!
Lots of love.
This is Sketchy
September 23, 2010
Don’t you just love how I link the titles to the subject in my posts. I know, it takes a lot of talent.
For today’s post {have you noticed I almost post 1 thing a day lately?} I’d like to share this freaking awesome project by Art House Co-op . These peeps create international art projects where anyone can participate. A lot of them are free and some you just pay a lil’ fee.
This is one of them, the Sketchbook Project
For this project you get to submit your doodles and they could get digitalized and published in their exhibition. Amazing no? PLUS you get a Moleskine sketchbook where you can draw anything you want {who doesn’t want a Moleskine, really, those notebooks make you an instant artist just by touching them}
Aaannd…. as if this is not enough. There is ANOTHER project by Art House, and this one is called Pockets
For this one all you gotta do is empty your pockets and send the random objects you hold in them, yup, that easy, and it’s FREE. You can send your old condoms {not used, please} chewing gum, lint, dirty kleenex and any other obscure item that may be hiding in there.
So there you have it, put that creative mind to work and start either, doodling and sketching or, emptying your pockets and sending the rad goodies.
Oh and here, a cute video fo yu ma friiiend…
