artful city walks: St. Bernadine

September 7, 2012

Hey guys! Today’s city walk guest is St. Bernadine - a branding, advertising and design agency based here in Vancouver. I found about these fine fellas back when they launched an insta gallery to showcase the beauty of Chinatown. Once I saw their project  - and submitted some photos myself – I knew they had to be part of the city walks.

As per usual, all photos were taken with a disposable film camera and the results are a total surprise for the crew of St. Bernadine. Enjoy!

SHOP|Treasure Green Tea Company: A lovely lady runs the store and there’s large range of Chinese teas. You can also get beautiful tea pots and useful tea toilets (yes that is a thing)!

STOCKHarvest: Beautiful and fresh sandwiches, soups, salads, and a variety of locally sourced groceries that are hard to find in the rest of Chinatown. The people that work here are great too. JUST GREAT ALL AROUND!Benny Foods: Great little Italian Bodega that serves up home-made sandwiches, fresh baked bread and cookies, and Italian groceries. They also sell some harder to find items like coconut sugar.

EAT | Phnom Penh: This famous Vietnamese restaurant was our first group outing to Chinatown after our first look at the new office. The menu is a bit intimidating since it’s the size of a phonebook, but all the food we tried was delicious. Make sure your in the mood for greasinessEast of Main:We could not wait for this place to open. Such a great spot for lunch, afternoon snacks, and after work drinks.

EAT MORE! | Oyster Express: Express….not really but you can’t complain when there is only two people that run the kitchen and dining area. Also, the food is pretty great. Try the grilled cheese sandwich or the veggie chilli with a corn bread muffin on a rainy day.Keefer Bakery: The ladies inside yell at you to buy ‘Coconut Buns’ and you should listen to them. In the morning they are fresh and warm straight from the oven. A perfect way to start your designing day.

Thank you. I do not travel and it is so wonderful to see the sites.

So funny! I had the lady yell at me to buy coconut buns, except I’m Asian so she yelled at me in Chinese. Another customer translated, so I ended up with coconut buns along with my lunch.
Half these places I know well, the other half I will definitely check out.
