Hello and Welcome!

Hello friends!!
Welcome to my new super duper home. How you likey? Here, grab a blanky…and oh yes, here, have this cookie..nom nom.
SO EXCITED to have my new artful home. The new home has WAY more space than my previous one. The new Artful Desperado will allow to create more projects and grow the site along with them. No more boxy templates!
The new layout has a gallery-like feeling, doesn’t it? It’ll be the perfect environment to showcase waves of talented artists.
Here’s a little sneak peek of what’s to come:
- Collections: Every other week I’ll present you an art collection..on a budget! Links and stores to purchase them included
- Objects of art: we love how art makes us feel, how it can change our mood in a positive way – I’ll recreate the same feeling with objects for your home
- Colorama: for all those color lovers out there – this one will be for you.
Oh and did I forget to mention I’ll be sharing some quick getaway tips to recharge your creative batteries? Oh yeeah.
Lastly, a project I’ve been working on for the last couple months. ARTFUL CITY WALKS! Yep! It’s coming next week. I will still tweak a few things here and there, but this is pretty much it! My grand art baby is born – and my pelvic bones are fucking sore. Seriously. Can’t imagine what having a real baby feels like.
Alrighty, I won’t bore you with more words. I’ll let your eyes get romanced by all the new content. Get ready to fall in love with art – all over again.
So, hello friends! Welcome to my new home, feel free to stay for as long as you like.

new series coming!

Hello!
Yep, there’s something new coming to the blog. Now that I’m preparing the new site I am also trying to get lots of original content going. I love the art, don’t get me wrong, but I wanna add a little bit more awesome to the equation – all for you, of course!
So here’s the lowdown – the new section will be all about questions and answers. You will send the questions and I’ll get you the answers right from the source: the artists (and by artists I mean bloggers, designers and other creative minds).
If you’ve always wanted to ask for advice – now’s the time to do it! You can ask anything, from “hey, I want to paint, where should I start” to “I wanna be a part-time freelancer! Help!” or even “How can I promote my work?”
All you have to do is send your questions to hello[at]theartfuldesperado.com and I’ll take care of the rest. I’ll try to get a bunch of questions going so I can get the feature rolling. Tell your friends, pass the word around and ask away!
Hope I can bring some light into your creative path :)
See you wednesday for the usual artful post.

artful fridays – paintings by Brendan Smith

Tada!
This week’s Artful Friday comes with a colourful bang. Embrace yourselves for the vibrant storm of Brendan Smith.
This week the weather has been a little bit moody – sun for one hour, rain for 2 hours, wind for 4 hours and back to the beginning – so, a big dose of cheerful art is needed.
Brendan uses bold brush strokes and bright tones to create color explosions on canvases. If you have a room at home that needs a little happy-therapy, I’d would go for one of these babies!
Oh, before I forget – I have a whole new site coming soon fellas! That’s right, an actual site with lots of new goodies. Also, the Artful City Walks project is pumpin’ I got the 1st set of cameras ready and I’m going for more! Stay tuned for more updates.
For now, enjoy the weekend and the beautiful art of Brendan! Doesn’t he make you happy? Yeaah!
Feliz weekend :)

Desperados!
Ah I am so hyper right now. I just came back from Instameet Vancouver and totally had a blast. For those who don’t know what this whole Instameet thing is, here’s the scoop: it’s a bunch of Instagram users getting together for a photo walk in their city – it happens everywhere around the world and you get to hang out and share your best geek tips. Sounds nerdy? It is! And it’s freaking fun. Read more…
artful fridays – salon of beauty by Ana Serrano

Guys, we’ve had a pretty colourful week here on the blog, haven’t we? From amazing patterns to incredible Japanese embroidery - obviously today is no exception.
On this Artful Friday we’ll explore Salon of Beauty by Ana Serrano - a salon filled with dreams, colours, creativity and lots of cardboard!
Salon of Beauty – commissioned by Rice Gallery, Houston, TX – is an installation depicting dreams and happy memories of Ana’s life and imagination. Using tons of glue, cardboard, paint, paper and loads of patience – Ana and her avengers put together a wonderful land that (I’m guessing) is 99% recyclable and 100% creative (the latter’s a fact!)
To make this post even better, Angela from Walley Films sent me this awesome video for Salon of Beauty – in it you’ll see Ana talking about her work, inspiration and you’ll get a glimpse of her creative process.
Salon of Beauty reminds me of the colourful houses in my hometown down south, so vivid! What about the houses where you live? Are they full of colour? Do they have a pattern of sorts? (all houses do, look closely!).
So, go get some popcorn, grab a cold one, kick back and relax because your Artful Friday starts now!
Happy weekend desperados.
