Pattern Design by Johanna Tagada

Guys. I’ve been lusting over crazy patterns lately. As predicted, the trend is going strong – pattern over pattern over pattern. There’s no end to it! And I’m sure you’re loving it too.
It all started on the catwalk with some pattern play by famous designers, and boom! The trend caught on. Street style, design, print, everyone is embracing the mix of colourful motifs. Johanna Tagada is no exception. I love the way she matches textures with chunky color blocks. It has a bit of an 80′s vibe, minus the mom jeans, of course. There’s also a smidge of Japanese drawing inspiration in here, can you see it? The light black strokes remind me of Japanese calligraphy and patterns found in antique porcelain ware.
And of course I couldn’t resist to go window shopping through the interwebz, using Johanna’s work as inspiration. So here you have it, a little virtual shopping spree for dudes that like to play with colour and pattern. Fun, yes?!

Holy crapola! Inside my head there’s a standing ovation going nuts for this artist. Did you think this was a photo? I did! I was actually kinda curious as to how the photographer got the brush-like texture in her image. Turns out it’s oil on canvas! *plop* head just exploded.
Pakayla Biehn has taken us by surprise with her magical Double Exposure paintings. In this series, Pakayla combines two current trends: floral patterns and the rebirth of analog photography. No wonder why we all dropped our jaws, right?
For this post I added some of my favorites from her collection but please, don’t let this stop you from visiting her wonderful site which has many other amazing paintings.
Oh and if you like these type of work, you should definitely check out this post and this one – both filled with double exposure beauty.

Ring the alarm! We have architecture, photography and pattern all in one post. Way too dangerous for your eyes.
David Stephenson is an American photographer that uses his lens to take pictures of extremely beautiful vaults in churches from around the world. Remember the post last week with all of those magnificent paper sculptures? Now, can you picture those sculptures and these vaults together? Ay mama, too much to handle.
David’s photographs not only serve as architectural candy but they also allow us to explore the many patterns used to decorate each of these dreamy vaults, literally – these patterns are a designer’s heaven.

Hope you all had a wunderbar weekend. I’m still recovering from mine which was crazy good but didn’t include much sleep. I think I kinda know how Sloths feel like when they drag their bodies through tree branches.
So how do you recover after partying and not sleeping? By exercising and eating healthy? Pffft ‘cha right – pizza and a cold coke – that does the trick.
Today I wanted to post something inspired by all of the crazyburger design-y ladies I met; You gals are freaking awesome, you put the A in ALT and the M in mamacita. You completely hashtagged my heart this weekend. DUDES seriously, women will take over the creative world pretty soon – get your cojones ready because there’s some serious competition out there!
Without further delay I present you the textile art of Louise Bourgeois - Fabric Works - a delicious mix of textures, color and patterns. Just the way we like it. This post goes for you ladies, cheers to that!

Oh my little Gbox, how I’ve neglected you. Come on though, Vancouver finally got sunny and I don’t have to wear 4 layers of clothes plus a scarf and, sometimes my bike is so sexy, I cannot resist her. Worry not my curvy blog, you are always in my thoughts.
To celebrate this awesome Canadian weather, why don’t we celebrate an awesome Canadian artist? yes?
Meet Niall McClelland - a talented Canadian currently living in Toronto {dang! he should come visit the West Coast…and give us some prints of his work..and teach us how to be a rad artist}
I love these as pattern inspiration {perhaps the PATTERN OBSERVER would like them too? Oh, if you haven’t checked that blog, do it. It’s pattern porn}
Enjoy this visual gang bang. For those of you in Canada – enjoy the long weekend {fuck yeah!} and for those everywhere else {lame} enjoy your normal weekend.
Gab.
