hi! this is molly from almost makes perfect. so happy to be a guest on gabriel’s blog – we’ve been blog pals for a few months now and i’m obsessed with everything he does… well you get it. he’s cool. NOW ME:
today i’m going to show you how to make a modern iPad stand for the kitchen — i use my iPad for recipes while cooking and never have a place to put it so it ends up covered in food. now i have a cute place to put it!
this project is really cheap and simple, if you don’t own a saw at home, just have the hardware store guys cut it for you.
let’s make it!
modern colour block iPad stand
Materials
- a piece of pine wood cut at 9″ tall x 10.5″ wide
- 2 pieces of trim cut at 9″ x 1/4″
- wood glue
- painters tape
- wood stain (i used english chestnut)
- white paint
- a brush
- sandpaper
- a clamp (not pictured)
Instructions
- once you have your wood cut, sand it all until you have a smooth finish.
- glue one piece of trim onto the bottom of your base and carefully clamp it to get it flushed. make sure you try not to get any glue on the surfaces that will show as they won’t stain properly. wait 20-30 minutes and then do your second piece. let dry for an hour or so.
- tape off 1/3 of your base and using your fingernails or a credit card, smooth it down as tightly as you can
- stain the bottom half and let dry for 12 hours or so. once dry, peel off the tape and tape off the opposite area, starting at the very top of the stained line.
- paint the other half white. if your stain leaked through the tape at all, just make sure to really saturate those areas and they won’t show through. wait until its dry, SLOWLY remove the tape and you’re done!
Fellas! Is this cray or is this cray? So easy! I’m so not a DIYer but this is something I can definitely make. Please make sure to visit Almost Makes Perfect for more amazing modern DIYs like this one. Thanks a bunch Molly!

5 Stylish Weekend Projects

I must confess I am not a DIY kinda guy, I can barely use crazy glue without squirting it in my eyes. That being said, I do love to find awesome projects that make me daydream ’cause I’ll never get them done – but I know some of you out there are total DIY mavens and you’ll put together shelving units in the same amount of time that it takes me to shower. So for all of you I found 5 stylish projects to try this weekend. Nothing better than a scandinavian lookin’ home right? Enjoy!

DIY Camera Obscura

Friday! yes. I am in such a zombie state of mind. Work, life, work. But, there is sunshine in Vancouver! so that makes everything so much better. I am taking the whole blogging thing a bit slow these coming days. I really REALLY love blogging but it was getting to a point where I’d stress about it – which defeats the whole purpose of me doing this.
Worry not! I have some cool things lined up though. A cool, easy arty tutorial {by a super cool art student that submitted her pictures!} and a great Euro band that has some rad tunes and videos and, because they are so cool, they will give you a free download . Yep. That cool.
For this weekend post I want to share with you a fantastic art project that I found via Yellowtrace Blog {which, in case you don’t have it yet, should be in your bookmarks cuz it’s just like yummy salsa on art}. The project; a DIY Camera Oscura…room! Yes, just look at these pics and get blown away:

So so so good, right? Ok now, here are the instructions for the magic by Yellowtrace :
STEP 1. Cover your window with a very dark shade (ideally velvet, or another heavy fabric/ solid material).
STEP 2. Make a pinhole in the fabric (I know what you are thinking – as if I you are going to cut a hole in a velvet curtain. Fair enough. But just go along for the sake of the exercise.)
STEP 3. An image of the outside scenery will be reflected directly on the opposite wall, but it will be upside-down.
STEP 4. Pour yourself a drink and enjoy the trip
This seems to be a fairly easy project, no? I mean if you only have a few windows with very little view then go get your friends involved! Go to their places and hunt down some nice looking scenery. If you want to check the full original post – click here
If you do end up trying it let me know and, of course, send some pics!
Ok that’s it for now. Again, there are a lot of cool things coming up in here, just bare with me while I get more sunshine energy pumped into my blood.
Thanks so much for popping by, have a great weekend!
Lots of love.
