Oh Spain, as per usual, you make me dream in technicolor. This series of geometric wooden sculptures titled Equilibrio Fragil y Simetrico II (try saying that with a mouth full of crackers) by Spanish artist Cristian Montesinos is buenisima!

The series is divided in two parts: the first one is full of drawings that served as a prototype for the second part, the real wooden sculptures. Most of the pieces use wood that was found or upcycled from previous projects. So cleva! (and a nice touch of “crafty” without being actually glue-gun-crafty).

For some reason, the colours and textures make me crave of summer like Solange craves to beat up Jay Z in an elevator – that hard!

Happy weekend desperados!

After a long hiatus, Australian artist Nike Savvas created this series of large-scale geometric pieces titled Liberty and Anarchy/ The pieces were part of her “comeback” show at Leeds Gallery in the UK.

It goes without saying that these embroidered sculptures (for lack of a better term), are stunning! All the colours and shapes make them super hypnotic. There’s definitely no better way to come back after a long creative break than with a HUGE BANG. In this case a very colourful bang.

Can you imagine making some of these pieces on a smaller scale? Say, for your desk or shelf as art for one’s home? AH! Maybe the artist could come up with a DIY!!..Though, she might slap me in the face for suggesting that haha.

Styrofoam Cup Sculpture by Tara Donovan

Remember this other sculpture/installation by Tara Donovan? Well, this one is just off the charts! The materials used for it are usually a staple in offices, nothing really fancy – but Tara with her immense talent – has turned them into a stunning cloud of light. It’s like a shiny hive! Beautiful isn’t it? Wouldn’t it be amazing to have this in your office instead of those horrible fluorescent lights? Yeah, I feel yah!

Who knew coloured pencils could make such amazing sculptures?! Lionel Bawden cuts hundreds of pencils in different shapes and sizes to create optical illusions and pattern play. Crazy how some of them look like they’re melting!

I love the green one with the two diamond-shaped pieces. Stunning! So tell me, which one’s your favorite?

kinetic rain

DANGER!!

You are about to pass out. Make sure your head is cushioned and remove any sharp objects around you. Are you good? Yes? ok…

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen lately. It sends shivers down my spine, it gives me goosebumps and it makes me want to buy a ticket and fly half way around the world just to see it.

I’m talking about Kinetic Rain – a remarkable sculpture by ART+COM in Singapore’s Changi Airport. The sculpture contains hundreds of copper-covered aluminum drops attached to automated motors in the ceiling. The “rain dance” is a 15 minute show that will send your artsy senses off the charts.

I think we should demand to have this type of art in our cities, right? We need it! Watch the video below and be prepared to get teary eyed.
